Let’s get excited about the next upcoming show! The new season of RCLT will officially begin on September 7 with Willy Wonka. Keep watching for photos, cast list and more info on the new season of shows.
Keep watching for more information on our 60 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee! Here’s a little history of our theatre provided by Carol Bignell. Thank you for caring for our historical records!
The Beginning of RCLT
1939 – Zelma & Paul McEvoy formed a touring company (Roswell Players) & produced musical variety shows & melodramas, going to rural schools.
1947 Roswell players reformed and produced “You Can’t Take It With You”.
KBIM-TV aired live programs each Sunday afternoon produced by a small but determined group of local actors.
Roswell Little Theater grew with the influx of Personnel into Walker Air Force Base & they began searching for a permanent home.
Constitution developed and approved for RCLT
We’ve come a long way! Come celebrate with us August 18 at the Country Club. A wonderful dinner will be served with entertainment. The play “The Curse of the Hopeless Diamond” will be presented and your dinner ticket will get you a chance for a beautiful diamond necklace from Bullock’s Jewelry.
One of our cast members has submitted this word of thanks to all who participated. It has been a true joy to work on the play and bring this story to life here at RCLT!
Come out and enjoy Hello Dolly: the music is a joy and so are the delightful characters on stage. Be sure to thank our sponsors for supporting this show: Paul’s Vet Supply, Maupin and Brown Dentistry, Roswell Toyota, and Maurice Geldert. Also thank Rick Kraft for doing the voice of Ephraim Levi. What a great community we live in. I was truly impressed by the number of Dolly Cast that auditioned for the next play Willy Wonka. The attached photo is of the feed store scene created by our set designer Terry Hecht. For tickets or call 622-1982. You can still use season tickets for this play – $45.00 for 4 adults…it a good deal.
Thank you all that help RCLT bring theatre to life. You are making a difference in the lives of young and older people. We have 11 people on stage that have never been in live theatre on stage before…some in major roles. We have 2 community band members (Mark Salas and Elijah Baltazar) playing music for us plus Kathy Cook and Berkeley Dittmann playing who recruited them. We have 9 cast members who have auditioned for the next play some with their children. We have 1 entire family on our stage who came to support their youngest who wants to be on stage. I love how families can play together in the theater. I love how the back stage crew makes the on stage crew look good by rapid set changes. The team work needed to produce a play will live with these people – leading to future skills that benefit Roswell. Thanks again. Carol Bignell
Webster’s dictionary defines “audition” as:
Greetings theatre goes of Southeastern New Mexico! Did you know that your membership in Roswell Community Little Theatre has an added bonus? Not only do you get to participate in what ever aspect of theatre you wish at our own RCLT, but we have a reciprocal agreement with the Artesia Community Theatre. Stay tuned for details and which shows are going to be eligible for your discounted ticket! Communities that “play” together stay together.
Our new president, Connie Hester, just presided over our June general meeting of membership on June 5. There will be no more general meetings until our Annual Meeting in September. In the next couple of months we are looking forward to her leadership and her ability to get us organized. We have compiled a survey that will indicate which skills you have and how you wish to use them. If you were not able to make the meeting, please contact one of the board members or fill out this contact form and I will email a copy of this survey to you. We are looking to get a database of members and skills so that we can be more efficient at pooling our talents for the many committees and jobs that need to be done around our little theatre. We ALL play a part!
Other board members: Kathy Cook, Vice President; Jim Bignell, Secretary; Hugh Taylor, Treasurer; Gina Montague, Past President; Board members at large are: Alethea Hartwell, Don James, Chris Samuels, and Jeorganna Simoes.
