Gina Montague is a regular on RCLT’s stage! You may remember her as Becky, in Small Talk, Elaine, in Arsenic and Old Lace, or Glenda the Good Witch, in The Wizard of Oz. We are blessed to have her talents portraying Irene Adler!
Thanks for chatting with us today! Tell us about your character, Irene Adler.
Gina: I think that Irene is very intelligent and accomplished in her career. However, she has terrible taste in men. She has been badly mistreated by men and is desperate for love, but even more desperate not to appear so.
What challenges have you faced portraying this role?
Gina: The challenge I have faced in this role is that one, I usually play comedic roles, so that is a switch for me. Second, I have not been treated as badly by men as Irene has, so I don’t relate to that on a personal level. Also, I admit I have not felt “utterly helpless” hopeless, yes but not ever helpless. It isn’t always easy to express feelings and emotions that you haven’t experienced in your own life.
What do you hope audiences will take away from this production?
Gina: I hope that audiences will be swept away with the story, taken out of their everyday lives for a few hours and not only watch the show, but experience it on an emotional level. This is going to be an awesome show!
